TCA (2,4,6-Trichloroanisole)

2,4,6-Trichloroanisole or ‘TCA’ is an intensely aromatic, musty and offensive chemical which can emanate from a flawed cork closure or can also result from systemic infection of wood or other  porous surfaces in the winery. The term “corked” derives from a mead or wine that has been infected by TCA. Also known as cork taint.
